“Hello, I'm Joseph Kowalczyk (Ko-väl-chick) your local Bay Area ceramics technician,
and I can fix your kiln. Welcome to my site!
Here's a little about me..."
2003-2006:
learned firing and kiln repair of gas an electric kilns under studio manager Craig Petey as I studied ceramics and illustration at California College of the Arts (formerly CCAC).
2006-2010:
expanded and refined my repair knowledge repairing equipment professionally for John Toki at Leslie Ceramic Supply Co. for high schools, colleges, recreation centers, campgrounds, home studios, and professional art studios all over the Bay Area.
2010-present:
currently providing independent repair services throughout the greater San Francisco Bay / Northern California area. I've also attended kiln training at the Skutt kiln manufacturing facility in Portland.
"I've repaired a wide variety of kilns, and have witnessed hundreds of kiln malfunctions. I have yet to come across a kiln I can't fix."

"I also know kilns because I am an active sculptor who works with clay. When you obtain my services, you're not just getting assistance from a qualified tradesman, but from a craftsman and artist who actually uses these products and applies the techniques from a personal level on a daily basis. I have in-depth knowledge behind the properties of clay, the chemistry of glazing, and the physics of the firing process which I can use to help you sort through your technical problems, studio setup or logistical needs. I'm thorough with attention to detail, and I take pride in executing quality work, even when it comes to your studio necessities."
